The Longshot vs. Car    -  June 2009

Hi All,
Many of you have heard the news that I managed to "find" another car in the River Trent at Hoveringham (below Gunthorpe) on Saturday. I understand the location is now buoyed and the Police divers are to inspect it this week after which BW will then recover it.

After the collision, "Longshot" was left without effective steering and only my Starboard shaft functional - as I had the car's roof wrapped around my Port prop / 'p' bracket and rudder.

Thankfully, there is no hull damage and the damage appears to be only limited to the propellors and the Starboard 'p' bracket - which are now with Clements Eng.

I wanted to publicly thank Jim and Linda (Sea Princess) for their help on Saturday. After the incident, we rafted together and made our way back safely on 3 engines to Newark in the sunshine. With our combined beam of over 27 feet - we certainly generated some interest when manoeuvring through Hazelford Lock !

Finally, I wanted to say thanks to the many familiar faces who came over to say hello and offer their best wishes on Saturday and Sunday. We will see you all again soon - when "Longshot" is returned to the water in fully restored condition.

Kind regards

Owen and Sarah

Congratulations to Paul and Janet for the successful opening of the new Office and Chandlery at Farndon Marina.  There was a great turnout and the weather was perfect.  Paul thanked the Architect, Builder and Project Manager and expressed his sadness that his late Father, Mark could not be there to see the completed building.

I understand York Motor Yacht Club is open only on Friday evening and Saturday - The bar is open until about 11pm . There's food available but only on a Friday evening. Apparently it's not possible to get through the gate from the club to the outside world without a key loaned from the club so the day of arrival is significant.
It seems we should just turn up and moor towards the downstream end of the pontoon outside the club.
There is shore power on the pontoon but it requires a card purchased from the club - not compatible with the cards used by British Waterways.

I didn't ask about mooring charges but I mentioned Farndon Boat Club and it seemed to be recognised.

Looks like its about 30 minutes walk into York from the club.
